The true lore of the r/ReZeroSucks sub
Recently, there was a particular post made in this sub in the midst of the fandom wars between Re:Zero and other fandoms in which they tried to link Re:Zero to school shootings (hardly the first time the fandom gets seriously slandered in the sub; this one picked attention because it could compromise the sub, just that).
As you probably have seen recently, the moderator of the sub made a post (mostly engaging in damage control) about it, apologizing for letting it slide for an entire day unnoticed.
Although superficially it may seem like a good-hearted action, it was mostly done because reddit could take serious actions towards a violation of the harassment rule that went as far as to link a targeted group with a real life event of violence. The moderator is clearly not interested in preventing serious slander or libel that borders on legal defamation as shown by the prevalence in the subreddit of posts like this one:
So if you believed the apology, you shouldn’t really blame yourself that much as the moderator is simply being a bit manipulative.
Having established that full context, I want to present the actual “lore” of how the subreddit was formed.

A very butthurt narcissist who cannot tolerate people enjoying things he doesn’t
Before this subreddit was ever made, the moderator mostly just boasted around in other communities about how much he disliked Re:Zero and how anyone who liked it was delusional (talk about rent-free), hence constantly searching for beef with the fandom completely unprompted.
To bring some examples of how inflammatory assholish said chud was:
Case no. 1:
This is a comment extracted from this post right here:
Originally, one would think there is not much wrong with him bringing up his takes about Re:Zero since they do get a lot of downvotes (rightfully so) in a post explicitly asking “What was your worst downvotes when talking about anime on Reddit?”.
The problem here, which I’ll use to argue that the whole existence of this subreddit can be reduced to the moderator being butthurt about people enjoying Re:Zero coupled with a superiority complex of some sorts, is the followup.
OP simply responded to him “I respectfully disagree” and nothing more than that phrase alone was needed for him to begin acting in defensive mode and condescendingly against the other person.
So much so he even declared that the mere presence of a person daring to speak something good about Re:Zero in his thread was an offense:
As you can see, OP didn’t insult him a single time or disrespect him, yet he begins a) making assertions about his age and level of maturity, b) treating him like a toddler, c) making fun of him and d) (most important) whining like a bitch.
Then he makes a total non-argument strawman about the Re:Zero subreddit having a lot of suggestive content (surprise, reddit is full of p***) to try to make a point about the writing of the characters story-wise.
I don’t think it is that hard to see, from this interaction alone, how what he has explained in the damage control post is mostly not the truth: as we see, his reactions towards people even slightly disagreeing with him about Re:Zero being good are met with pedantry and exceedingly butthurt behavior.
Heck, he even doubles down in a different thread:
So, understand, this has nothing to do with some form of undeserved punishment being imposed on a poor innocent soul: simply acted like a prick in other communities trying to pick conflict with fans of the franchise or people that considered Re:Zero to be good, and got muted or banned for toxicity.
Case no. 2:
For context, this is what the post was asking. A random redditor gave their own opinion below mentioning three series that they considered to have flawed/complicated characters.
But our narcissistic no-life sycophant asshole, of course, had nothing better to do than to directly act aggressively and confrontational, just because someone DARED claim Re:Zero was nuanced:
One pattern you notice is that, almost 99% of the time, he is the one to initiate the aggression in these old threads, without a single soul being disrespectful towards him. Clearly, it was not a matter that the toxicity of Re:Zero fans bothered him, but rather, that he was being toxic himself and absolutely didn’t like it when he was getting downvoted or banned for his behavior.
I mean, even here, the other redditor was being respectful towards him: he said “fuck off all that, you are delusional” literally in his second comment responding to it.
What one can notice if one analyzes all of these cases, is that the mod had a form of paratoxic obsession with the story: nobody dare say anything positive about it, that is an infringement of his own rights, you are not allowed to have fun and glaze what you enjoy.
Personally, I cannot relate to these people at all: worse, I find what they do to be profoundly antipathetic, and if you ask me further, to be a behavior that should get shunned and criticized socially because it is socially inept and wrong.
As I always put it with my vanilla ice cream example: suppose that you absolutely despise vanilla ice cream. You think it tastes like shit, you cannot understand why anybody would voluntarily eat it, and you would never order it yourself. Fine.
What would be completely fucking deranged, however, would be spending your free time entering ice cream communities, searching for people who say they like vanilla, replying to them to explain how stupid their taste is, getting angry when they disagree with you, getting progressively more hostile when they refuse to concede that vanilla is objectively terrible, and then eventually creating an entire community whose primary social glue is disliking vanilla ice cream.
Because I consider this spiteful behavior to be socially inept and m*ntally ill, I will keep criticizing it, you’ll see me denouncing it until the very end of days because it is wrong.
