I really really don't want to, but im putting in my 2 weeks tmr
Im a 20 year old day care teacher and I can do it anymore.
I've been working at this daycare for about 2 years, it was my first adult job out of high-school and I was so excited when I got it. When I first started I was a floater which I loved, I lived helping and supporting the lead teachers and I loved the fact that I got to work with every kid in the center (we're a small one). About a month ago our lead preschool teacher had to leave and since I was the only one with experience my director made me the lead teacher. I was so excited, I immediately told my parents and my boyfriend and they were so happy for me. But it was the nearing the end of our summer camp program and our 2026 school was going to start soon, which means I would get a whole new class of students. These students are awful and I hate them. I know you arnt supposed to say that about kids, especially when you are a teacher, but I don't have the energy to care anymore. I have a class of 10 and ALL of them have behavioral problems. I have one kid who is constantly running around the classroom and climbing on stuff and spitting....all day...and he like barks at me when i tell him to stop. I have a different kid, WHO DOSE THE SAME SHIT. There's this other kid that's super quiet and everyone thinks he's a good kid who listens but he follows all the kids who are doing bad shit, and he never....NEVER sits in his chair properly, he like squats on it and I tell him every ducking day to sit properly and he does for 2 seconds until I turn my back and he's sitting like a gargoyle again. And then I have this small girl who is the worse of them all. She hits, runs, yells, kicks, pretty much everything but that's not even the worst of it, it's the tantrums she throws. They are like a normal 3 year old tantrum but turned up to 100%. She's laying on the ground throwing her shoes kicking people who walk by, kicking and pushing furniture and screaming.....but like normal kid screaming like I just got stabbed in a horror movie scream, at the top of her lungs her face going red and you can see the veins in her neck from how hard she's pushing out this scream. Now she's the kid of some kind of a football coach but like not the main coach, I don't know football, so I thought it was like she was spoiled or her parents didn't ever tell her no, but it's quite the opposite, I would be talking eoth her mom at pick up and she tells me all the ways she disciplines her and she told me how she got her tested for autism and she has none of the markers for it so her mom just doesn't know what to do any more cuz she says that the daughter never throws tantrums like that at home. But yesterday was quite literally my last straw. It was the end of nap time and all the kids are putting their stuff away except for her, which is weird cuz she's usually always the first to want to be done with naptime. I let her sit in her cot until everyone is done cleaning then I go and tell her that bits time to clean up. She doesn't say a word to me and keeps looking down at her cot, so I explain to her that I need to clean up her cot so we can have snack time and she still doesn't move so I pick her up and mover her off the cot and put it away and she starts having one of her tantrums, mind you she didn't even go to sleep. So she's standing in the walk way screaming her fucking head off, parents from a program we do start coming to pick up their kids so I obviously have to get her out of the walk way so she's not in the way. I try telling her she needs to move but I'd have better luck telling and apple to be an orange. So I have to pick her up and move her. Once i pick her up she obviously gets even more upset an starts waving her arms around and ends up hitting me in the face. Obviously she didn't mean to but it still happend and im not getting payed nearly enough to be hit in the face at work.
I would rant to my boyfriend about everything and he would tell to find a different job because this is stressing me out to much and it's making my anxiety and depression alot worse, but I dont know how to explain to him that it's really not that easy. This is all I know how to do, and I understand im young and I have so long to build my skills and figure out what I want to but since I was a sophomore I wanted to work with kids so giving up isn't that easy. Not to mention that I'd have to be leaving the few kids that I love, even just the thought of it make s me want to cry, because once I leave, I can never see them again. Another thing that would suck would be the fact that I wouldn't be work with my boss and coworkers anymore. I got very very lucky and got a director that it incredibly supportive, like she literally tells us all them that if we are stressed and need a minute to call her so she can come step in the class so you can go scream in your car. She has stepped in multiple times for me so that I can go have a meltdown in the bathroom. She comes in and helps even when I dont call her. She had sent out a message to the preachool parents telling them that the because of their kids behavior wr can't do our jobs and is actively trying to work with the parents to try and change the behavior. Plus she's like super fucking funny and like actually treats us like we're people. So tomorrow in going to sit with her and talk about everything, about how I really really can't do this anymore and if I am still the preschool teacher I will be putting in my 2 weeks, cuz $15 ain't fucking worth it anymore. It was when I was a floater but being a lead teacher is too much, I give up, and I am so so so upset that I am.
There is so much more that i wanted to put in here but this is already alot longer then i was planning on making it. Sorry if none of this is coherent or any thing is misspelled it's 1100 and I have work at 830 tmr :)
