Is anyone else frustrated by the oversimplification of the National Autistic Society saying “autism is genetic”?
Before you come at me, please read this: I am not arguing that autism is not genetic. I’m not stupid. Autism is strongly heritable, but it is not 100% heritable as evidenced by countless studies.
I’m frustrated that they oversimplified the vast data and made it seem like autism is ONLY genetic. We all know that people don’t look into the claims that are made by large organizations. I can foresee this giving people ammunition to argue against the science that there is a small environmental component to autism.
Like yes, it’s genetic and MOSTLY genetic. But, not always. I don’t know. Maybe this is a post that is better suited for a biology thread, but I’m feeling irritated by how it was worded.
