Food Poisoning at the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya

Resort Review

My boyfriend and I got back from Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya a couple of days ago. Pretty much everything was great with the exception of our last night there. We both developed what seemed like food poisoning that evening- stomach pain/ cramps, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. It was especially rough for my boyfriend, who spent his entire night suffering in the bathroom. I was relatively okay that night with the exception of stomach discomfort that lasted for about an hour, but once I got back home, my symptoms flared up and I’ve been spending the last few days recovering.

We’re certain it was something we ate at the resort since the VIRM was the only plate we ate during our trip and we never left the resort. However, we cannot pinpoint exactly what caused it. We have very different palates, and the only foods we both ate were the French toast from Le Marché, beef burrito and ice cream (different flavors) from Mar y Tierra.

For additional context, my boyfriend doesn’t drink and throughout the entire trip, we were very careful about the tap water.

Aside from that experience, almost everything else about the resort was amazing. Staff was great, pools were beautiful, and I actually thought the food tasted pretty good.

So, did we just get unlucky or has anybody else experienced something similar at this resort?

For comparison, I also stayed at the the Hyatt Ziva two years ago and never had any stomach issues during that trip.
