1 Year Post Botox

Post-Botox

Hello to the non-burpers! I saw another post on here talking about their experience post-Botox, so I decided to share mine too.

I got Botox in October last year, and it was the best decision I've ever made for myself. Before Botox, I would suffer from chest pressure, bloating, gurgling/frog noises, and I eliminated and avoided anything fizzy, including alcohol. I also had (and still sort of have) emetophobia, so I was scared to get the Botox for fear of throwing up. Many times in the past, I've needed to throw up, but as we are all aware, it was a terribly painful experience: dry-heaving for hours just for nothing at all (not even spit) to come up.

Only a few hours after my Botox - which was completely painless and easy - I had my first micro-burps. It felt so strange because I had clearly never experienced anything like that before. It might sound obvious to say, but it just felt like air coming up rather than proper burps. I remember how weird it was to taste/smell the food that I ate hours ago coming up through a burp. I haven't seen many people talk about that.

In the week following the Botox treatment, I experienced slow swallowing. I thought it would be way worse than what it actually was. I just couldn't eat many dry foods for a couple of weeks, but I was able to swallow medications and water just fine. Whenever I would lie on my side and needed to burp, I felt some acid reflux come up, but I just chalked it up to having a looser pipe than before (sounds gross, I'm sorry). I told my doctor this, and he said it was fine, and it went away shortly after. I continued to drink carbonated beverages daily for the next few months in order to train my muscle and keep my burping even after the Botox wore off, and it worked!

Now that I'm about a year out from the procedure, I can confidently say that it was the best medical decision that I made for myself, and it was a lot less scary than I thought it would be. I haven't thrown up yet, but I can imagine that it would be a LOT less painful and easier than pre-Botox. I am so grateful for every burp that I burp. The RCPD life is now BEHIND me!

If you have the money and resources, I want this to be your sign to rip off the band-aid and start burping! I hope everyone is having a good day! Thanks for reading all of this. If you have any questions feel free to ask away.
