Visiting: Elevated Burger / Restaurant Options

Okay, PDX, here's your assignment.

My wife and I are coming to town this weekend. We frequent your lovely Rose City and love some PNW cuisine. On Sunday, we're taking our 19-year-old niece, who is a second-year at Reed, out for her birthday.

This is where you come in. Our niece doesn't come from a family of elevated palates. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that--neither did I. But I've developed it over the years, and a huge part of traveling for us is the restaurants we get to visit. So when she goes out with us, she knows we'll take her somewhere elevated if she wants to.

But here's the ting. Even though she enjoys those experiences, often she'll still gravitate to the stuff college kids enjoy. Burgers. Pizza. Tots. Don't get me wrong, I love all those things, too, but she'll want to go somewhere that's not dive-y but has those options.

So, thank you in advance, and please hit us with your suggestions. Somewhere that's fancy enough but still has a solid burger--and will still allow me to eat PNW goodness (I live in California now but spent over a decade up in the Northwest, so I know what I don't get these days). Also, my wife isn't a red meat person, she leans more towards fowl and fish.

Appreciate you, and also totally open to suggestions for the nights we're there when we're not with her. In the last year we've been to Kaan, G Love, Jacqueline, Canard, Olympia Provisions, both spots at the Woodlark, and some others I can't remember.

Oh! And if I could offer a suggestion of my own, we really like Backcountry Wine Bar. Great vibe, great wines, good people, and there's never enough folks in there.
