Do you think there is such a thing as "emptiness behind the eyes"?

Discussion

I know this is only tangentially related to SPD, but I think you guys would be familiar with the concept.

I stumbled across this Youtube Short recently, which is a part of this video. It's a "diagnosed sociopath" talking about masking. Very interesting stuff, but I'm more concerned with some of the comments on both videos, which bring up this idea of "emptiness behind the eyes." Like they can "just tell" by looking at the eyes, no matter how well the sociopath -or, to broaden it, the person with a condition that leads to masking- tries to, well, mask it.

My question is, do you think this is a real thing?

Personally, I've always thought of "empty eyes" as a fictional concept, a bit of poetry to describe someone who isn't "all there in the head" so to speak. I've never thought about it being an actual tangible thing. The appearance of one's eyes is determined by their color and size and the shape of the skull and the muscles of the face. There's no "soul" to be seen or not seen behind them. It's like those "body language experts" who think everyone must look and act in the same "typical" manner or else be considered suspicious.

I get that schizoids and similarly-masking-sorts may have a "look" to them, but I think it just boils down to a lack of emoting -the trademark flat affect- rather than any eye business.
