WIBTA If i Spoke to my School Advisers about an Economy Professor who is EXTREMELY political in class??

I’m a 45M going back to school for my degree, so I’m definitely the “grandpa” in most of my classes. I’ve had great professors so far, but my Economics class has become increasingly frustrating.

Over the past four classes, my professor has made several statements that she presents as fact, including:

  • We essentially don’t have any problems with the economy.
  • AI and data centers are good for the economy, with little discussion of the tradeoffs.
  • The $5,000 payment proposed/promised by the president isn’t a “bribe” because it’s meant to keep the economy strong.
  • Problems with diesel, oil, and gasoline aren’t really affecting our economy.
  • Diesel prices are high because we only have one refinery operating.
  • If the economy fails, it’s the “people’s” fault, not the government’s.

After hearing this repeatedly, I started fact-checking some of these claims. What I found either contradicted them or showed that the reality is far more nuanced than what’s being presented in class.

I’m not an economics professor, but I’ve worked in finance for 12 years, and my issue isn’t that my professor has political opinions. Everyone does. My concern is when opinion or interpretation is presented to students as established economic fact without acknowledging other evidence or perspectives.

Most of my classmates are young, and they should be learning how to analyze economic information, not simply being told what to think about it.

I don’t like rocking the boat, but after four classes of this, I’m considering documenting the statements and bringing my concerns to the department chair.

WIBTA for doing that?
