It is impossible to have civil conversations about religion in this subreddit.
True Unpopular Opinion claims to support the ideal of a civil conversation about user opinions that can be and should be civil and respectful yet that is impossible due to a few points.
Point 1: Atheists in this subreddit at least do not try to consider the view points on how believers feel and will often resort to mocking and acting like edge lords of the 2000s.
Point 2: Believers have a very difficult time trying to understand Atheists ideals on a temporary existence with the hope of leaving a mark on the world that will sooner or later be erased by the passing of time as well as the acceptance of a possible nothingness which many believers find sad.
Point 3: many Atheists sadly suffer many traumatic events at the hands of religious people in their lives that leave many Atheists in a mindset of "Bad religion experience = all religion is bad" or where was God to save them when said experience happened.
Point 4: Believes often preach but forget to listen or try to understand where a non-believer is coming from or feeling during said debate. Some believers can become pushy and try to force faith. True faith must be willful not forced.
Final Point: both sides can become quick to insult or disrespect one another when things are not going their way leading to a total loss of any real conversation happening in a debate.
So to wrap this all up and state it one more time. It is impossible to hold a civil and respectful debate/conversation on this subreddit. The religion flair is only used to start arguments never thought provoking conversations.
