Need some advice refinishing a wooden desk that can't really leave the room it's in

Need Advice

I'm pretty sure I've worn away the finish on my computer desk since the "working area" of the desk is noticeably softer than the parts of the desk that never see use like behind the monitor or under the organizers.

Normally I'd just take something like this out to the shop to sand and refinish it but, it's effectively stuck in the loft office. It's a large L shaped desk and it was hell getting it up the stairs and through the door so I'd like to avoid going through all that getting it down and back up again.

I'd like any advice y'all can give for working on this desk in situ and any advice or recommendations on finishes that will stand up better to hours long use multiple times a day.

Some other information you might need:

  • The wood the desk is made out of is pine, the same kind you'd get at Lowes or Home Depot
  • I have access to a number of hand tools and power tools
  • I have cats that will take every opportunity to get on the desk if I working on it or not
  • The room the desk is "stuck" in is carpeted and has a pair of windows I can fit a box fan in easily for ventilation
  • Moving the desk to the shop isn't impossible, it's just really difficult and not something I can do by myself
