Journo looking to speak with FIFO miners in regional WA about experiences with sex workers
Hi all,
I'm an Australian journalist working on a documentary examining the relationship between the FIFO mining industry and the sex industry in regional and remote Western Australia.
I'm looking to speak with men who currently work, or have previously worked, FIFO in the mining industry and have experience seeing sex workers while on roster.
The project is interested in the broader reality behind this relationship: FIFO culture, long periods away from home, isolation and loneliness, intimacy, relationships, and the role sex work can play in life in remote mining communities.
I'm not looking for sensational stories or trying to identify particular workers, companies or individuals. I'm interested in people's ordinary experiences and perspectives, including why they chose to engage with sex workers and what that experience was like.
This is a documentary project rather than an academic survey, dating post or anything commercial. There will be no form of compensation given for interviews.
Ideally, would like to avoid anonymous interviews, but happy for interviewees to use pseudonyms. However, can be done anonymously if required. More than happy to explain the project and discuss privacy/identification arrangements before anything is recorded.
If you've got a perspective you'd be comfortable sharing, please send me a DM. You don't have to commit to an interview straight away. I'm very happy to answer questions first as well as link you to my previous work.
Currently I’m in Kalgoorlie so would be great to speak to some people while I’m here.
If you've worked FIFO but haven't personally used sex workers, you're also welcome to get in touch if you have relevant observations about the culture or environment around it.
Thanks.
