An absurd experience I had a few years ago.
Question about a spiritual/pre-epiphany experience I had. Discussion I have a question about something that happened to me once. I've had countless mystical experiences, each different from the other, each with its own individuality, but there was one that I had that left me very intrigued, so I wanted to know if someone could explain it to me or say something about it.
It was the middle of the night and I was lying in my bed. I intended to do something I've done before, which is to lie on my back, with my body immobile, unable to move it and with my eyes closed; maintaining my consciousness while doing so, as if I were letting my body "sleep," but remaining awake. I stayed like that for a good while, as in other times, but this time I went further. My body started to feel strange during this experience, like it becoming lighter and I stopped feeling it more and more, among other different sensations like feeling some parts of my body larger than others, etc. I remember I even lost consciousness for a moment, and when I regained it, I was having various thoughts about random things. And I continued to have them. The sensations continued and deepened. However, there was an opportunity that was practically a breaking point. Everything happened at once, basically. I had what seemed like an insight; in my mind, a phrase began to repeat itself uninterruptedly, saying: I am not my body. The biggest problem is that I wasn't thinking this; suddenly this repetition began. I didn't want it, nor could I control it; it was almost an influence of something, but it wasn't just a repetition. I began to feel it, to see that it was true. At that moment, it was as if I were having an epiphany. At the same time that this was happening—I can't say if it occurred immediately or not—I stopped feeling my body. However, it was something deeper than that; I not only stopped feeling it, but I ceased to be it. I became as if I were just a perception, a consciousness. It's difficult to express in words what I was and what I was feeling, as it went beyond usual, mundane perception. Parallel to these two events, or perhaps consecutively, an "event" occurred—a darkness, a void, a dark nothingness began to take over the "space." I can't explain it properly, but darkness began to engulf me, to suck me in, as if I were becoming a vortex while simultaneously being "pulled" by it. In short, I began to become that, I began to be that Void, so to speak. It's important to emphasize that between the second and this last event, a situation occurred. I can't say if it was when I felt myself to be only consciousness or when this dark void emerged, dominating everything, but I began to integrate with the space, with reality, I began to become it. It's difficult to imagine this, but conceptually that's what happened: I became reality, the space there, as consciousness, as if there were no distinction between what I was and the environment. When I started to be sucked into this nothingness – it's worth noting that it wasn't something bad, this Void seemed to be something much more than just darkness, blackness. Nothingness was something beyond what I can explain, yet it wasn't just darkness nor did it seem malevolent. When I was about to fully become or go into this Void; I believe my heart started to race, my heart rate increased abruptly, because soon after that, these events were attenuated, the experiences stopped completely, but I still felt my body numb and my chest/heart beating very rapidly, as if it were tachycardia, but much more intense. I believe that even though I was no longer my body, I was still connected to it, and out of fear of what would happen if I integrated or went into that Void, because it was something extraordinary, an extreme, my body recoiled from it or something. I really wish someone could shed some light on what this "Void" was, why I became a consciousness while becoming such a thing or whatever that experience was.
P.S.: I must have lay motionless for two to three hours. And I'm very curious about what would happen if that...
