What are my options for dealing with ~$22K in credit card debt?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on the best way to deal with my credit card debt.
I currently have about **$22,000 in credit card debt across 5 cards**. Most of the cards have APRs between **25% and 29%**, and all of the accounts are currently in good standing.
My balances are approximately:
$9,660 @ 27.74%
$6,441 @ around 27–29%
$3,002 @ 28.99%
$2,496 @ 27.49%
$632 @ 24.99%
The high interest rates are making it difficult to make significant progress on the balances.
I’m considering a few options, but I’m not sure which direction makes the most sense:
Calling the credit card companies directly and asking for a lower APR or hardship program
Trying to negotiate a settlement directly with the credit card companies
Using a debt management program
Using a debt settlement company
Looking into other options
Has anyone here successfully negotiated a lower interest rate or settlement directly with their credit card companies **while the accounts were still current**?
What options would you recommend looking into, and what should I be careful about?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar situation and can share what worked (or didn’t work) for them.
Thanks!
