First time buyer looking for some advice on a handheld

Hey all,

I’m looking to get a handheld PC mainly for playing Guild Wars 2 and WoW Classic/Forever on the couch at home.

I’ve done quite a bit of research and I’ve currently narrowed it down to two options:
- ROG Ally X (2024) – refurbished, around €780. Z1 Extreme, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 80Wh battery and Windows 11.
- Lenovo Legion Go S – new, around €739. Z1 Extreme, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 55.5Wh battery and SteamOS.

The Ally X seems like the better hardware package, but it’s refurbished, which I’m still a little unsure about with a handheld. The Legion Go S would be new and has the bigger 8” screen, which I really like for MMOs.

So I’m mainly wondering:
Would you go for a refurbished Ally X at this price, or buy the new Legion Go S?

And is buying a refurbished handheld generally a good idea, or are there things like battery health, sticks, buttons, etc. that I should be worried about?

I’m also open to other suggestions around max €800. These are just the two I’ve ended up with after my own research, so maybe I’m overlooking something.

I’m not in a huge rush either, so I’m also wondering if it’s worth waiting for Black Friday or if handheld prices don’t usually drop enough to make it worthwhile.
