Doubling of security deposit

I'm in Abu Dhabi and I usually receive my renewal notice at least four months in advance. Every year, without fail, it arrives in the first week of September.

This year has been different. I finally received a notice, but it wasn’t a renewal. Instead, they’re goijg to DOUBLE the security deposit. Still no renewal notice.

Makes me wonder if, since they can’t raise the rent this year, they’re looking for other ways to get more money out of tenants.
