I need to know if this is just hormones but I'm too scared to ask in case it isn't and people start worrying about me.
Hey. I'm a teenage boy with important exams coming up and stress about my parents' arguing. I keep feeling sad at random times and wanting to avoid people. When I do speak to people, it either goes really well and cheers me up, or I irritated easily but don't show it so I don't upset anyone, or I get irritated, let it show, and feel even more upset with myself. But most of the time I just lie on my bed or sit at my desk staring into space until it's time for dinner.
More about exam stress - it's not like I'm worried about objectively failing at all, since I have taken very similar exams before and achieve medium-high passes to top 10% level grades on all of them. I'm more worried about failing according to my own subjective standards. The exams are graded 9-1, with 9 being the highest. I want all 8s and 9s, no exceptions. Last time, I "only" passed 3 of my 9 exams to this standard. Anyway, revising helps me to feel less sad as a result of this being one of the causes of my worries. But sometimes I just lack the will to revise despite knowing it will help my sadness and my future, similarly to how I avoid people even though it usually helps.
Is it normal to be driven by some illogical part of the brain to avoid doing what I know will help me feel better? That seems wrong and I don't know if it's something wrong with me. Knowing it's normal would help me de-stress a lot. Even just having an answer I don't like would help since it's one leas thing to think about
