Wolverine not selling at the pace Sony had hoped

Marvel's Wolverine

In the first 3 days Wolverine only sold 1.9 million. At first it sounds like it's doing okay but it's terrible for what it should be selling. Spiderman sold 2.2 million copies in the first 24 hours. Wolverine needs to sell at least 6 million to start turning a profit. When you count marketing and the 300 million it took to make, it may need to sell around 9 million copies. More than half of these sales were pre-orders. Not looking too good.

Sales are already declining massively. Things aren't looking too good. For a game like Wolverine, if they don't hit their sales target, they can lose their license to continue making games. Typically first week of sales are about half of all your sales. Not always, but holiday sales won't increase this game very much considering it will be competing against GTA 6. The only chance of a moderate increase would be a price decrease, which this game needs.

Sure it's leapfrogged a lot of other games, but Sony has barely come out with any AAA games this year. So there really isn't a lot to compare it to so it's not saying much. This game was supposed to be a legendary and massive success. Not it seems like the goal post is to just try to break even. Wolverine is a legendary AAA franchise and shouldn't be celebrated just because it outsold Death Stranding 2. It hasn't sold anything close to what Spiderman did and had all the budget to do so. Even Black Myth Wukong sold 10 million in 3 days. This should infuriate anyone that was rooting for this game to do financially well.

This game has tried to please the woke crowd. Making Wolverine cry or act more open and feminine isn't appealing to the masses. This is Wolverine we're talking about, not Ken from Barbie Movie. Then again, girls made this game. With this game along with all their live service flops, Marathon and Concord, Sony has become a mega-budget Flop Machine.
