janet vafaie “dermatology”

with the new school year starting, i want to strongly advise incoming students to stay FAR away from janet vafaie’s dermatology office. she’s unprofessional, manipulative and quite frankly, fraudulent. and i’m not the only one to make these claims either, just search her name on google or here.

- she doesn’t have a set hourly rate, she pays depending on age and whether you work full time/part time (if she pays at all)
- she’ll pay part timers under minimum wage
- she pays under the table via bankers checks, no formal payroll or paystubs
- she relies entirely on ucla students as employees. she knows we’re desperate for clinical experience and would tolerate mistreatment for the sake of it. therefore, it’s a shit show. she has sophomore students with no medical experience responsible for checking insurance benefits and charging accordingly, leading to lots of miscommunication and patient frustration.
- the only authority figures are her and her mother. no HR. i don’t say this to be rude, but her mother was too old to be in charge of anything significant - especially payment. we were often shorted ~$50-100 per pay check because she couldn’t calculate our hourly rate x time worked correctly. no paycheck ever went smoothly.
- if a patient didn’t want to purchase from her skincare line, she told us to never book the patient for another appointment
- when she was tired, she had us call patients the day of their appointment and ask if they’d be purchasing any cosmetic products/procedures during their visit. if they said no, she’d have us reschedule their appointment for another day. she didn’t respect their time unless they’d be purchasing her bogus skincare.
- she’d blame being “nearly bankrupt” as a reason to delay our paychecks for weeks on end

i could continue for much longer, but i hope this illustrates how much of a joke of a provider she is. i truly cannot believe she runs a functional business.
