First game nostalgia while playing the sequel/3rd entry
Have you ever had nostalgia for the first game while playing the sequel? A weird question I know but I've had this on my mind ever since I started Kingdom Hearts 2. For instance:
When I first played bayonetta 1 I kinda hated it. I struggled to string combos and defeat bosses all thought the game. I eventually got better, but I couldn't wait to try the sequel to see what it improved. And while Bayonetta 2 did improve in various ways, it was also worse in others. Now that I was good at stringing combos, my attacks were much weaker and I was pushed to go into climax mode in order to regain the power I once had in the first game. It made victories feel a bit shallow and undeserved.
Another game I felt this way was with Kingdom hearts. Combat was slow, camera was abysmal, I got stuck on bosses for days- but the story was pretty good. I went into the sequel about a month ago and its an improvement in a lot of ways! Faster combat, combos on the ground and air feel much better to pull off, a much better camera- I loved it. But after awhile I started missing some aspects from the first game. With how combat worked in KH2, for a good portion of the game spamming the x button and dodging occasionally works for a little more than half of the game- in KH1, each move had a lot more commitment and spamming x would lead to you having a bad time. KH2's story also leaves a lot to be desired, I haven't finished it yet, but it takes so long to unfold that it can be hard to stay invested with Organization 13's plans at time. That and the weak movie retellings of each world. Atlantica in kh2 is just there for rhythm mini games compared to the first game when it was a whole world you could explore! I could go on, but I think you get my gist.
Has anyone else had that feeling?
