I think it’s much more likely for a man to punch down than it is for them to punch up.
I always see people talk about celebrity couples where a man is “significantly” less attractive than the woman and I think that’s more common place in Hollywood or for famous men, but in my every day, I think it’s way more likely for the inverse to happen.
I will very frequently see men who are just normal looking. Maybe they’re kinda good looking, tall, in decent shape etc. and then I see their girlfriend or wife and she’s super overweight, or looks like she put no effort into her appearance.
Admittedly, the most common pairing I’ll see is a guy that’s thin to average body type, and then an overweight to obese woman.
I will rarely see a guy with a woman that looks better than him to the point where they’re in different leagues, but when I do, I will say it’s a MUCH larger disparity. So maybe that’s it and “average and below average” is just less eye catching than “average with smokeshow”
