Hey guys, I wanted to make an update to my previous post about Superior Towing charging me $410, and specifically the $250 lien release fee.

I want to make this clear

THIS FEE IS ILLEGAL, confirmed by the Gainesville Police Department.

Under Resolution 2026-343 adopted on June 1st, 2026, the City Commission capped the rates for towing as follows:

**Base Tow Fee: $160**

**Storage (per day after 6 hours): $30**

**FSS 713.78 Administrative and Lien fees (after 48 hours): $75**

This means the max admin/lien fee you can be charged is only **$75 and AFTER 48 hours.** They cannot charge you lien processing fees before they're even allowed to claim a lien against your vehicle. And they can't "release" a lien that doesn't exist and then charge you for it.

If you have been charged $250 for any sort of lien or admin fee, please send me a dm. I am currently speaking with an attorney to take legal action, hopefully a class-action lawsuit.

After my initial post and finding no answers online, I went to the City Commission meeting on September 17th, 2026, and spoke in front of the Commissioners (and a loser from Superior Towing) and told them my story.

Thankfully, the Gainesville Police Department towing administrators were there too. After I spoke, one of the commissioners asked the former towing administrator, Monica Jordan, if Superior Towing was in violation of city ordinance when they charged me $250 after just 39 minutes of having my car. Jordan replied, "Yes". He then asked if they (the commissioners) could "revoke or suspend said towing company if that's the case," and Jordan replied again, "Yes".

For the video of the Commission meeting, you can go here:

I speak at 4:40:07, and at 4:53:19 is when a commissioner asks the GPD if the $250 charge after 39 minutes is breaking local law, and they say yes. Right before I speak, the Superior Towing representative speaks too.

GPD went on to say that they have sent Superior Towing a cease-and-desist letter regarding the $250 fee and that they would be giving them citations too. The towing department had been going through the process of getting a new Towing Administrator, so towing complaints have been backed up and responses have been slow. However, they just hired a new one, so things should start moving, hopefully.

After the meeting, I was able to meet Major Jaime Kurnick, Captain Paris Owens, and the new Towing Administrator, all of whom gave me their contact information. I will be consistently reaching out to and meeting with them to make sure Superior Towing is held accountable.

Again, if you are a victim of this theft by Superior Towing, please submit a complaint online at this link:

Unfortunately, the towing administration is limited on a complaint-by-complaint basis, so the more complaints that are filed, the more citations GPD can give them, and the more power GPD has to investigate them. I know it seems like Superior Towing just gets away with everything, but I truly believe now is the time that will change. Public pressure is usually what makes things happen in government, so please share this with anyone you know might have been affected.

And last but not least, yes, Roam Towing is officially being ended soon. The Commission did their first reading at the meeting (which unanimously passed) and has to do a second one for it to be official. Not sure when that will happen, but all Commissioners, especially Mayor Harvey Ward, agreed that it is a major problem in Gainesville and needs to be thrown away.

Superior Towing, your thieving days are numbered :)
