Disclosure: I'm a licensed agent in the Seattle/Eastside area. Not naming neighborhoods here on purpose - see below for why.

"Where should I live" threads always get a pile of neighborhood names, and honestly that's the least useful way to answer it, because it's just someone else's preferences with your name on it. What actually narrows things down is criteria you can verify yourself:

* **Commute** — where you'll work, how often, and your real max door-to-door time. This one matters more than map distance - bridge crossings and peak-direction traffic change everything.
* **Housing type** — single-family vs. townhome vs. condo, lot size, new vs. established.
* **Price band** — think in monthly cost, not just purchase price.
* **Transit/walkability** — do you need it, or want it.
* **Timeline** — how soon you need to be here.
* **Flexibility** — is your job fixed, could things change in a year or two.

One fork that trips a lot of people up: Seattle and the Eastside are genuinely different markets — different inventory, different price structure, and the bridge commute is worse in practice than it looks on a map. Drive it at the time of day you'd actually be commuting before you decide anything.

Also, renting for the first several months while you get oriented is a completely legitimate move, not a failure. Costs you a move, buys you a lot of certainty.

Happy to help anyone work through their own criteria if useful.
