Best Sober Living After Rehab

I’m a POA to a friend of mine. I don’t live in the state but originally from Minnesota.

My friend is graduating early October from the EOSIS rehabilitation program which has suggested TRANSITIONS and or ARCHES after. Unfortunately I haven’t read the best reviews and nobody from their facilities has responded to my calls, email or fax in two weeks - so, I dislike not being able to reach a facility to a friend in need.

My friend needs his medications - for specific mental health conditions that had been ignored for 30 years. EOSIS, to their credit, got him an up-to-date diagnosis and the medication.

I’ve read so many horror stories about sobriety houses turning into havens for addiction and overdoses. Maybe the Minnesota newspapers are just portraying the facts or the worst stories.

I’d be very curious about the best facilities out there.

I did sign up to be a SS representative to start disability for my friend. Problem is, locating my friend’s naturalization papers (he was adopted and neither himself or his family kept his paperwork).

I got a social worker assigned, who transferred him to another social worker, but it’s been a month and the new social worker still hasn’t contacted my friend and now has an outgoing message they are away.

I state all this because “the system” seems so whack. So much red tape, bureaucracy, and wait times to get anyone to be productive that it’s no wonder there are so many homeless people and addicts.

Total side story - it’s been rough because I proved one particular county court officers were making so many mistakes or just, dare I say, lying to the courts, that every time I got involved there is pushback of some sort. A public defender had to recuse himself for “conflict of interests”, aka “you made stuff up”. It is so damn frustrating.

All that being said, I still think Minnesota does have some of the best intentions in their population than most states. Yet, it is so imperative when people’s lives are on the line that the bare minimum WORKS.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, time is not on my side.
