DIY Fireworks?

I really want fireworks for our send off. Nothing crazy, I was thinking just maybe one of those big packs with a single light, and have a friend set them off for our send off. The pack I'm looking at is only 20 seconds of fireworks and 15 shots.

Has anyone done this before? My fiancé is worried about getting fined or the cops called or something but fireworks are legal in the state we are getting married in and it they would be set off in an empty parking lot across the street from our venue.

The clean up plan would be letting it cool off for ~5 mins the friend would then throw the pack away in the dumpster, so I don't really see any issues with my plan unlike my worried fiancé.
