Hit a (presumably) improperly installed mailbox that was too close to the curb
I was driving in my neighborhood and had to move over so a large truck/trailer could pass. When I moved over to the side of the road, my rearview mirror struck a mailbox. Looking through my county ordinance codes mailboxes are supposed to be a minimum of 6 inches from the curb. This mailbox was flush with the curb. To compound things the vehicle I’m currently driving is a rental. Now I will need to submit a claim through insurance and I am worried about any associated fee fees or repairs.
Can the homeowner of said mailbox have any legal recourse?
