Gameplay Discussion

I don't often play with randoms in depths these days, but occasionally I do simply out of curiosity to check in on the state of D5 randoms. Had a number of runs last night where I was matched with some struggling players--players who clearly were having a hard time staying alive during fights with minor bosses throughout the expedition, and especially during the nightlord.

I had to carry these players to victory, and each time, my passives were fairly mediocre. On each occasion, they had incredible passives that could have been better in the hands of a more capable player on the team. In one instance a player was holding onto THREE items with 14% improved atk at full HP -- this player was down at 3 bars three times during Nameless King and 3-barred within the first 40 seconds of regular Fulghor. In another case, a Scholar who was running double balancers was the only one to find a less likely for ED Libra, and spent the entire fight being 3 barred (it is not wise to spam L2 on Eleonara's Poleblade against Libra or really any other nightlord). This player also spent much of the expedition dying repeatedly for the same reason. Had they given that Less Likely to me or the other player, ED Libra fight would not have taken damn near 30 minutes.

Being aware of your own ability and compensating for that accordingly can go a long way. If you are spending most of the time looking at the floor waiting to be revived, maybe consider handing those types of passives to the player you perceive to be the strongest on the team. Of course, this requires some humility as well as an ability to gauge others' skill level relative to yours. Conversely, I am almost always happy to prioritize giving damage negation passives to the weaker players first, before looking for some for myself. I understand the desire to make your build as strong as possible. But remember, the goal is for the team to win, and sometimes that requires a bit of sacrifice, and crucially, an honest appraisal of one's own ability relative to others.
