Having a hard time getting into [KCD1], should I skip to KCD2?

I’ve started KCD1 a couple times but keep having a hard time getting into it / maintaining steam. I really struggle with the combat, the game just feels kinda clunky in implementation/gameplay, and with game performance (I can’t stand playing free camera first person games below 100-120 fps but KCD1 seems somewhat poorly optimized and I struggle to maintain this without the game looking like shit).

I’ve considered some light mods but not sure how much it can smooth out the game play. I played KCD1 through the Neuhof bandit massacre quest as well as the Woman’s Lot dlc but that’s the furthest I’ve ever gotten.

I installed KCD2 to see if performance is smoother, and it is much better while looking better too. I’ve gotten the impression from Reddit/reviews that KCD2 gameplay is less rough around the edges too. Seeing as I’ve tried and failed to get into KCD1 2-3 times now, should I just play KCD2 and then come back to KCD1 if I’m still hungry for more story after? Maybe I should just read a detailed synopsis of the KCD1 story before playing KCD2? Or should I rly just grit my teeth and KCD1 eventually clicks?
