Mortgage company miscalculated by a grand?
I bought my house in 2024. I understood that the property taxes would skyrocket - hadn't been sold since 2002. That was fine. Payment ended up going up $200 and I paid the $2,500 escrow shortage as well.
Now this year rolls around and they're saying we're short another $1,450?? And our payment will also go up $120 a month.
Looking at it, they underestimated our winter property tax by almost $600?? like they literally projected our summer tax to be double the previous summer tax, which was accurate, but didn't increase the expected winter tax at all, which also went up by double...like how does that make sense??
then they projected our insurance as only going up $200 and it went up $600...
i completely understand i'll either have to pay the $1,450 upfront or roll it into our mortgage but it feels insane that they can underproject that much and it's somehow my fault my escrow ended up way in the negative AND they want a grand as a cushion sitting in their account...am I gonna get hit with the exact same shit next year??
i had heard you can bow out of escrow altogether, but not until you have 20% equity 😔 ridiculous...
