I ignored the best light in my apartment for three years because of cardboard

Moving Tips

I've lived here for three years, and the corner beside my living room window had basically become an amazon box graveyard. it wasn't even a neat stack. I had just pushed cardboard behind a chair so i wouldn't have to look at it.

Every few months I would break down two or three boxes, feel briefly productive, and leave the rest for later. Somehow the pile never got smaller.

Last weekend I tried something different. Instead of working from the edge of the pile, I dragged everything into the middle of the room. Once it was blocking the space, I couldn’t quietly abandon the job again.

A few boxes were too taped up to tear apart cleanly, so I used my HOTO edgeFlow for those and kept going until the whole corner was empty.

Underneath the cardboard were things I had completely forgotten about: a broken humidifier, phone chargers that no longer worked, and a yoga mat still in its packaging. Most of it went out, and I set aside a couple of usable things to donate.

I didn’t buy a storage system to replace the boxes. I put a cheap side table there with a floor cushion and a plant I already owned. Yesterday morning I sat there with coffee and realized I had ignored the best natural light in my apartment for three years because I kept telling myself I would deal with the cardboard later.

Making the mess temporarily more visible was the only thing that worked for me. What finally got you to deal with the clutter spot you had learned to stop seeing?
