Empathy?

I had a weird experience yesterday. Spouse and I went to church. During the class, spouse announces that I filed for divorce and we needed prayers. OK, I was surprised but whatever. So, at the end of class everyone just walks out and not one person speaks to us. I was expecting a little empathy and it didn't happen. Seems strange.
