Salem, it's time to take action! The Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS) Policy Committee recently held a vote that paves the way for even more dangerous streets. Despite years of increasing fatalities and serious injuries, these elected officials are doubling down on the system that has made our streets so dangerous.

Despite representing 65.1% of the population of the region, the city of Salem will only get 11.1% of the vote.

In other words, a resident of Aumsville will have 43 TIMES MORE INFLUENCE THAN A RESIDENT OF SALEM.

If you are unhappy with the unrepresentative government, which funds transportation projects that result in hundreds of deaths of our neighbors, email mwvcog@mwvcog.org and tell them to amend the proposed change in their cooperative agreement.

And if you can, please attend the SKATS Policy Committee meeting on Tuesday, September 22 at noon at the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments offices at 100 High Street SE, Suite 200
OR join virtually via Zoom [https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89960102143](https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89960102143)

Here are some suggested talking points:

\-The Policy Committee cannot continue to ignore the demands of our community for safer streets.
\-Each jurisdiction represented on SKATS should have a vote equal to their population.
\-The Policy Committee needs to abide by their own adopted criteria for selecting projects, which prioritizes safety.

A government committee you've never heard of held a vote that paves the way for even more dangerous streets.
