9 year on from my brothers tbi

Family Member Support

Not sure if I’m posting in the correct place , my brother was attacked 9 years ago and suffered a severe tbi, part of his skull had to be removed he spent 9 days in a coma. Then 2 years not talking had to be peg fed and many other issues. He now talks and eats himself but isn’t mobile however I’m struggling and I’m pretty annoyed at myself because I don’t understand after all this time after the attack it seems to just have hit me. The devastation when it first happened was unbearable but maybe I was kept going by just doing all I could by working with the health professionals to get him the best care and get him as well as we could (he’s no where near the same) he remembers so much , the only thing I find hard is he has no compassion/ empathy and he suffers with frustration (something that was never the case before the attack) I guess I don’t really know why I’m here ? Maybe to see if anyone else out there is going through a similar situation? I feel like I can’t deal with it anymore which isn’t right as he’s my brother and I’ve dealt with it for 9 years. Visiting every other day, involved in all hospital appointments and fully involved in his life at the care home he’s at. It just seems to be weighing more heavy on my mind , but why after 9 years ?
