Alfa pendular vs Intercidades? Space for carry-on at feet?

Traveling Lisbon to Porto in October. Is there any real difference in these trains (comfort/quality) other than a few extra stops? We don't care about food or bar cars. Is there space to stow my hardshell carry-on with me in front of seat to use as foot rest on either train in first class? Thanks
