How to Call Amazon (or ANYWHERE) to Complain About Fragrance Contamination and New Products Arriving Scented, or in Scented Packaging
This is from someone on facebook in the fragrance free living 100% group. They posted directions and a helpful script that really works for complaining to Amazon about scent contamination and fragrance contamination on products. A lot of us with disabilities have to rely on Amazon, so this is great to have.
You can also use the same number for Whole Foods online orders, if groceries come smelling of delivery driver fragrance (scented laundry, eew), cologne, scented lotion, perfume. Secondhand scent is the new cigarette, and here is how to advocate and be heard.
The script generally works for anywhere--Target, Kohl's, Macy's, Anywhere you shop that has a problem with sending products that stink of scented fragrance when they shouldn't.

HOW TO CALL AMAZON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT FRAGRANCE AND SCENT CONTAMINATION ("AMAZON SMELL")
-- For countries outside the USA, google "amazon disability services customer support (your country)." Then follow the exact same directions below! --
Amazon USA: 1-888-283-1678. This is Amazon customer support for customers with disabilities. Fragrance intolerance and fragrance sensitivity are ADA-protected disabilities. This is the correct number for us!
The Quick Magic Script: "My (order #) is contaminated by scented products at the warehouse. Please start storing scented products in closed containers, as the chemicals in scented items are causing everything Amazon sells to smell, and giving me (list symptoms). Thanks!
The More Powerful Magic Script, This Works!
-- "I am calling to report injury and damage to the safety department." This gets immediate attention, and it is accurate! We are being injured by fragrance contamination, and our products are damaged by fragrance contamination.
-- "I am having health problems caused by products damaged from fragrance contamination. Products smell like (employee fragrance, laundry detergents). One in three people has a health reaction to fragrance, and fragrance intolerance is an ADA protected disability. Warehouse storage and employee fragrance is damaging my products and causing me harm."
-- Amazon products are causing me (list reactions and symptoms) because of fragrance contamination.
-- "This is a serious problem. I please need you to create FOUR tickets:"
- to send to your supervisor
- another ticket for the warehouse
- a ticket for the contaminated product
- report injury and damage to the safety department
You may get an email asking for photos of the damage, just click the link in the email and copy/paste this script:
"It is not possible to provide a photo of fragrance intolerance, as it is an invisible disability. Chemical sensitivity affects one in three people, and it is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act. I also cannot provide a photo of fragrance contamination damage on the product, as fragrance is a chemical that is not visible. Please escalate this matter of chemical contamination on products with the warehouse, and report injury and damage to the safety department. Thank you."
If they email again asking for more photos or doctor records, email the contact at the bottom of the email and tell them to stop, or call Amazon Disabilities Customer Service back and ask for them to stop asking for this information.
