It doesn’t make any sense …

What was Hal convicted of? Negligence in duty does not apply he’s is not an Earth cop. He was the only one who detected the threat in Rushville. The sheriff and the whole town covers for the killer machine. Legally speaking they were accomplices in murders like of those thugs who pursued the sheriff.
If it wasn’t for Hal and John those revenge seeking aliens would have blown up the whole town to kill the manhunter.
The fucking manhunter that they protected killed all those people in Rushville. The citizens even tried to kill both Hal and John, which is attempted murder.
And at the end of the day Hal goes to jail? And these Rushvillians are mad at him? For what, killing their alien murder bot?

Why does John blame Hal for those casualties? What could have Hal done to save everyone? Guardians created the damn thing, no sense going to them. John not only was compromised by the manhunter, but he knew her identity and didn’t tell Hal. What if Hal didn’t deduce she’s the manhunter? Would John try to kill her by himself? Leave her alone?

It makes zero sense
