Quelbree experience
Let me preface that I saw some people have had success with this med on this sub but I found so little info on it for Bipolar online or within my resources.
I’m almost done with one year on a care plan with combined weekly therapy and monthly psychiatry. It’s been smooth sailing but after my seizure disorder showed its head again we switched off of Wellbutrin to Quelbree.
I read the warning and found it very interesting that it is highly NOT recommended for those with Bipolar Disorder. Within a week and a half of it in my body I had a full blown manic episode that had to be second worst to the episode that led to my diagnosis. I am also on 150mg Lamotrigine so this wasn’t part of the gamble.
I now feel very different about trusting my psychiatrist when I’ve been very adherent to my care plan. I stopped intake immediately after I almost lost my job and chose to call my psychiatrist office to find resources to help me not get sick when stopping. How does one office not have all three of their psychiatrists there for a week?
Front desk told me to basically fuck myself and that of it’s an emergency go that route. I was so sick the following two days. Non stop throwing up and migraines so bad I couldn’t move nor open my eyes.
After my therapy visit (love her bless her soul) she encouraged to talk it with her when she got back in office. - the offices were previously merged but the psychiatrist left to join another so they know each other professionally.
Our appointment just now - very non-empathetic and was very defensive when I asked what resources I could use or another practice maybe they have a good relationship with when I’m not needing an emergency room but rather an urgency visit. I do all virtual with the psychiatrist at least and these appointments never surpass ten minutes.
My therapist has given me the contact of another psychiatrist she’s worked with and highly recommends. I’ve just never had this bridge to cross before and tend to get anxious with the process of opening to someone new and maybe not getting transfers etc. right on the first go.
Tldr?
Quelbree sucks. My psychiatrist sucks. How does one switch with minimal hassle? And how do you trust medical professionals again after an almost life altering episode? Thanks Reddit.
