Character is made to believe due to damaged memories or amnesia that they were the victim in a crime when the story later reveals or they find out they were the villain/involved in a different way all along. DEFINITELY NOT counting times where the characters are deadly aware of their crimes prior to all this or criminals acting like victims despite knowing what they did. GENUINELY believing that they were the victim in a scenario.

Memento - Main character has a condition where at a certain point he can’t can new memories past just an initial incident that he believes his wife was killed by someone. By the end, it gets revealed that she ended up surviving and making him kill her, so the entire revenge quest was for nothing. He has gone on an imaginary revenge quest multiple different times, each time enacting what he thought as revenge on a new person.

Katana Zero - Main character has a recurring memory of a child and a scientist hiding from enemy soldiers, the scientist being shot by the soldiers and the child hiding and being traumatized by the event. We are made to believe and the main character believes that he was that boy and that is his backstory. Cut to the ending, where the rest of the flashback plays out. The main character wasn’t the boy. He was one of the soldiers and he leaves melancholy from the scene, one of many things which end up being altered by his mental state.

(Weirdly specific trope) You were made to believe you were the victim, turns out you were the killer
