Question about B&S and contamination..

I have read that a break and shake will reveal contamination quickly in a colonizing bag/jar.

If one waited longer to break and shake, e.i had more colonization (40%+) would this give the mycelium more of a fighting chance against any present contam?

Or at that rate would it had been better to never break and shook in the first place?

Thoughts?
