As a man who just started working at starbucks i want to ask the customers here.

📖 Storytime

A few days ago I had a lady come in and ask for a “vanilla”, and this is more or less how it went:

Me: sorry miss, can you specify which vanilla drink you want

Customer: The vanilla

Me: (Ok maybe she thinks theres only 1 vanilla drink) would you like the vanilla latte, the vanilla iced shaken latte, or the vanilla cream frappucino

(Me patiently waiting for the one gear in her head to start turning)

Customer: hmm... I'll just have the vanilla

I was so damn close to throwing the vanilla syrup bottle at her empy skull💀.

Eventually we figured out that she was looking for the frappuccino.

Over the past few days, I've had multiple customers do this, and almost all of them seem to assume that “vanilla” is the short form for the frappuccino and has nothing to do with the other vanilla drinks.

So my question is: is this normal, or am I just too new at the job?
