“Haram” Relationships

I hear a lot of talk about "haram" relationships on social media.

But what exactly is a "haram" relationship?

Is it sleeping with someone? Dating? Not immediately getting married after a week?

Personally, I see absolutely nothing wrong with dating or having a relationship before marriage. Matter of fact, you should date. Because how else are you supposed to get to know someone?

You're potentially choosing someone to spend the rest of your life with. You're telling me I'm supposed to make that decision without ever actually being in a relationship with them?

As much as the Muslim community wants to pretend like we live in the Victorian Era, dating isn't going anywhere. We're moving past the loveless arranged marriages of our parents. People, including Muslims, want to marry someone they actually know and love. Not marry someone after one meeting.

Demonizing “haram” (whatever that means) relationships and shaming muslims for dating is not going to help anyone.
