How much do global players really matter to PPG?

Discussion :Valko_Chibi_Claws:

Hey, first-time poster, though I've been lurking for a while. I’ve been wondering where we stand in PPG’s long-term plans after looking into how they’ve handled past controversies.

In 2019, they added MLQC Shaw, but the CN player base pushed back because they were worried it would lower the odds of pulling their favorites. The fandom started fighting, obviously. Sound familiar? They ended up pulling him and bringing him back months later as a "Special Encounter" character.

In 2020, Shining Nikki released a "Hanbok" set in Korea, but the CN players claimed it was Chinese "Hanfu" and accused Papergames of appropriation. Papergames sided with the CN base, shut down the whole South Korean server, and refunded everyone. They literally closed an entire market just to keep them happy.

We’ve seen the CN player base launch huge smear campaigns when they’re unhappy with PPG. Valko’s cancellation is just a result of that. Could they be worried about getting in legal trouble in China if they backtracked and released Valko? Obviously, they prioritize the CN player base since they bring in more money, but where does that leave us? Can they really afford to lose global players while waiting for new ones over time? They’ve backed themselves into a corner with both markets. I keep seeing solutions that include two separate servers to appease global and CN. I'm not sure if it's feasible or would they try it. I understand its a huge thing to take on. I'm only curious about all this so any feedback would be appreciated. I hope I have the history correct here.
