28 [M4F] What’s all this talk of “reverse colonisation” and why am I supposed to think it’s bad?
Having lived in the United Kingdom for the last 30 years, I’ve seen a lot of change happen to the nation, especially in my neck of the woods. Formerly all white streets and even neighbourhoods have become \\\\\\\*gasp\\\\\\\* majority non white - and that seems to be a bit contentious these days.
Anyway, regardless of how you feel about various policies and integration, I absolutely love seeing black, Asian, Indian, etc, women become the “new normal” where I love. You can’t walk into a store without seeing dark skinned African women modelling on the posters, or stunning Caribbean and Indian women dominating ads.
To a lot of people, this is some kinda “reverse colonisation” - folks from countries we colonised in the past coming over here in droves and redefining our country..
And I kind of love this? But more than that, I love when the women of colour themselves love it. Their confidence that comes from knowing they’re the future, that a city like London is starting to look more like them than pale white guys like me.
I’m sort of looking to explore the psychology here, the great but also uncomfortable parts of this conversation. I want to understand your self identity, how you feel about the optics and impact of such radical change. Is it the future? Justice for past colonisation?
Looking for light race play if you’re open to it, and just having a casual free flowing conversation about the topic from “reverse coloniser” to “white native”
(I should say I’m self aware enough to know lots of exaggeration and stereotyping plays into this kind of thing, it’s exploring fantasy as you’re comfortable with).
