Split-day schedules (Gen Ed + Therapy): How are you balancing academics and support?

Finding the right balance between classroom education and therapy hours is one of the trickiest puzzles to solve. Some families do full-day school with after-school therapy, while others do a split schedule (like half-day General Education kindergarten/elementary paired with half-day ABA, OT, or speech).

Since ABA and therapy providers aren't permitted to teach or cover academic curriculum, pairing time in a traditional classroom with focused therapy hours can give kids both academic/social exposure and targeted behavioral support.

For those currently navigating school setups:

  • What schedule or combination is currently working best for your child?
  • If you transitioned to a hybrid/split schedule, what made the biggest difference in getting your district or therapy center on board?
