18 months of maternity EI and lay off [on]

I applied for regular EI back in June 2025 when I got laid off for 3 weeks and then went back to work in July and worked till end of October to start my 18 months of maternity leave. I should be back to work April 2027. Also to mention, I am laid off while on mat leave. But I don’t know if that affects my case.

I haven’t received my EI benefits for 2 consecutive times now. I contacted EI last week and today and they said that they forgot to enter me manually. (Whatever it is they have to do manually) and that I should get my 2 missed pays at the same time and that I should be getting my next payments without any problem. I asked why they do it manually now as it was automatic before. Apparently my EI should have ended June 2026 because it reached 50 weeks already and that I am just getting additional 20 weeks so I am only getting EI till October.

Okay this is very confusing to me. Never had an idea about 50 weeks max but I am getting the minimum pay of $400/week as if I am on 18 months of maternity leave because that is what I applied for. Now my question is am I not actually entitled to get paid till April 2027 and if I am not entitled to get paid till April 2027, how will I get the full amount I was entitled to? And how flawed is this EI system? It’s very frustrating.
