Licensed deck officers at Alaska Tanker Company and Overseas Shipholding Group voted overwhelmingly to join Masters, Mates and Pilots. Nearly two years later, they are still fighting for recognition and a first contract.

These mates work aboard American oil tankers and made their choice through legitimate union elections. The federal labor board has ordered the companies to recognize the union and bargain, but the delays continue.
