8 month old has gastritis
Hi, so I just need some help understanding this diagnosis.
My 8 month old was diagnosed with food intolerances (had blood in her stool and severe GI pain from 4 weeks old, then stopped gaining weight so was put on Neocate formula) and severe reflux/GERD (was put on famotidine and then lansoprazole and then omeprazole) but still had some periods of time where she would just refuse to eat anything and become fairly dehydrated and drop on her growth chart considerably. She is also having trouble transitioning to solids and is generally a fussy baby.
Last week we had an endoscopy, and I was convinced that it would show something like EOE. However, her esophagus and small intestine were visually completely normal. Her stomach and antrum(?) were shown to be inflamed, and today we got the biopsies back. Everything was negative except for gastritis. The doctor also said she had dyspepsia(?)- just an over abundance of stomach acid?
Can anyone tell me how this condition actually likely makes her feel based on your experience? I have no idea how this impacts her day-to-day because she can’t talk to me. And if anyone has had a baby or toddler with this condition, how do you manage something like this when they can’t communicate with you and tell you what hurts and what doesn’t? If there is no underlying cause besides general gastritis, how can we help her feel better?
Thanks!!
