Directors who improved significantly on their second film?

Discussion

Clint Bentley directed the film Jockey. Decent film. It got pretty good reviews but in my opinion it was a little forgettable. Then he followed it up with Train Dreams which I think was a fantastic film and was my favourite film of 2025. It showed how a director can expand and show more of their abilities when given access to a bigger budget and a bigger cast.

Any directors who really levelled up from first to second film?
