Found a note in his jacket. It said “I love you too.”

I’ve been reading here for a while but never posted. I’m shaking as I type this.

My husband (41M) and I (38F) have been married for 12 years. Two kids. Normal life. Or so I thought.

Three weeks ago I was putting his jacket away and a piece of paper fell out of the inside pocket. Handwritten. Not his handwriting. It said: “I love you too. See you Thursday.”

I didn’t confront him right away. I don’t know why. I think I was in shock. I put the note back and just… watched.

He’s been going to “late meetings” on Thursdays for about two months. I never questioned it. He’s a manager, it seemed plausible.

Last Thursday I followed him. I know how that sounds. I’m not proud of it. He didn’t go to his office. He went to a restaurant. A woman was waiting for him. They hugged. Not a friendly hug. A long one. She touched his face.

I didn’t go in. I sat in my car and cried for an hour.

When he came home that night he kissed me on the forehead and asked how my day was. Like nothing happened. Like he hadn’t just spent three hours with someone who writes him love notes.

I still haven’t said anything. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know if this is an emotional affair or a physical one or both. I don’t know if the “I love you” is romantic or if I’m reading into it. But I know something is very wrong and I feel like I’m living in a house with a stranger.

The worst part is the loneliness. I can’t tell my friends because what if I’m wrong? I can’t tell my sister because she’ll hate him forever. I can’t tell him because I’m terrified of what he’ll say.

So I’m telling you all instead. Is this an EA? Is it worse? Am I crazy for waiting to confront him?

I feel like I’m drowning in plain sight.
