Is this rattling noise normal for a Shutter Precision PL-7 dynamo hub?

I recently bought a new KOGA F3 8.0 equipped with a Shutter Precision PL-7 dynamo hub.

When I lift the front wheel and spin it by hand, there is a regular rattling noise coming from the front wheel/hub. The frequency of the sound increases with wheel speed.

I can also hear the sound faintly while riding.

I have already tried a couple of things:

  • Lightly applying the front brake while the wheel is spinning makes absolutely no difference to the sound.
  • I completely disconnected the lighting from the dynamo hub. The lights no longer work, but the sound remains exactly the same.
  • I compared it with another KOGA bike with a similar setup. That bike makes a very similar type of sound, but it is considerably quieter.

I understand that a dynamo hub can have some magnetic cogging/pulsation even when there is no electrical load, so I'm wondering whether what I'm hearing is simply normal behavior of the PL-7, possibly amplified by the wheel/fork, or whether this sounds unusually loud and could indicate a hub/bearing issue.

The bike and hub are new.

I've attached a audio recording where the sound can be heard clearly.

For anyone familiar with Shutter Precision hubs, especially the PL-7: does this sound normal to you?
