Gifts for a new mom

Health and wellness

In the last few months, a few friends had babies and for the first time while thinking of what to get them, I did not think of the baby but the mom. I realised after becoming a mom, how the default always used to be for me (like most people I know) to get something for the baby but I feel so differently now. I want to gift the mom something apart from the congratulations balloons and the flowers (sweet but really useless) so she feels as seen as the baby because in her head as well, she is also only seeing the baby. So wouldn't it be wonderful if other people around her instead did that for her — saw her first?

Honestly, after going through motherhood myself, I find it incredible how unseen a mother becomes. Imagine anyone going through 9 months of being sick, then getting hospitalised through possibly an extremely scary or even a traumatic surgery and is then home for recovery. Wouldn't everyone around be fussing over this person? Their physical recovery, their mental recovery. This person would be so seen and pampered. I don't get it why we do anything short of this for a new mom who doesn't even get to really rest?

I've been thinking about putting together gift boxes for these new moms i know (and a couple who are due in a few months) - focused only on the mom. I figured the baby will get plenty of gifts from others and most importantly, he has his mom to get things for him. In fact, I've been having alot of fun with this. Considering each item through the lens of what would I have liked once I delivered.

I just want to hear from the moms in this community - if you could add items to this list, what would it be? And honestly, what would have made you feel most seen in those first few months?
